For this U.S. based position, the expected compensation range is $81,600 - $122,400 per year, which includes base pay and short-term incentive.
The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our salary ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the salary range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Schneider’s Automation Engineer is an impactful role on the team – implementing quality building automation control practices and providing technical oversight for construction site projects within a retrofit/energy performance contracting team. This Automation Engineer is positioned within our Sustainability business, specifically within the Public Sector. Public Sector projects may include K-12, higher education, government services, military and more. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
As an Automation Engineer, a typical day for you might include:
- Lead detailed automation design and engineering field audits
- Create automation scopes of work and cost estimates with minimal supervision
- Prepare technical audit reports
- Provide decision-making support for sales, engineering, and project management functions
- Analyze the performance of mechanical, electrical, and control systems and recommend changes to improve functionality and/or energy efficiency through multi-disciplinary Energy Conservation Measures
- Prepare automation designs for the project that meet the need and level of control for given systems
- Project management responsibilities including accountability for design budgets and deadlines
- Author sequences of operation for improved energy efficiency of HVAC equipment and other mechanical, electric, and pneumatic systems
- Create building automation and integrated system drawings and reports
- Assist in validation and commissioning hardware and project installations
- Ensure conformance to industry design standards and local codes
- Stay abreast of new technological developments/releases and apply to projects and processes where beneficial
- Prepare automation bid package submittals
- Participate in strategic initiatives as assigned to drive continuous improvement
- Deliver solutions with first-time quality while maintaining high levels of internal and external client satisfaction
And on some days, you may:
- Provide status and progress reports
- Ensure conformance to industry design standards
- Provide technical training and support both internally and externally
- Assist and lead efforts on integration of 3rd party system or integrations amongst systems
- Assist clients and team members with any BAS operations, software, networking problems
This may be the next step in your career journey if you have:
- 2+ years engineering or technical degree required or equivalent work experience
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification and/or other Professional certifications (LEED, CEA, BEP, PE, etc.) preferred
- 3-5 years related work experience in the building automation/controls and/or installation of mechanical HVAC equipment
- Working knowledge of Schneider Electric BAS platforms (Vista, Continuum, I/Net, and/or Invensys) preferred
- Hands-on experience with other building automation vendors (Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Alerton, Automated Logic, ec.) preferred
- Technical knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems and of access and/or building automation systems
- Competency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, Project
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards: ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA, UL, etc. as well as of electrical safety standards and practices

- Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments in both an office setting and on a construction site. This may include exposure to outside weather conditions, roof tops, attics, as well as mechanical and electrical equipment rooms which could consist of confined spaces and loud noises.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Overnight Travel 40-60%

While performing the primary functions of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to a general office environment and construction site environment. During periods of project site visits, the employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions, roof tops, attics, as well as mechanical and electrical equipment rooms which could consist of confined spaces and loud noises. Employee may work in different environments while on various job sites. This job will require approximately 40-60% travel to project sites on a weekly basis – expectation is individual to return to home on a weekly basis. Travel will occur through the use of an automobile or by airplane to destinations for weekly visits during construction or design phases of work.
