We are seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Radiographer – Operator at our facility in Barberton, Ohio.
The individual selected for this position will work in accordance with written quality control technical procedures, manufacturing processing instructions, and verbal instructions to perform RT, MT, and PT inspections on critical precision manufactured components. Specifically, the Radiographer will:
Perform radiography (RT) inspection by:Responsible for radiographic set up, exposures, and tear down
Responsible for the safe operation of x-ray and gamma radiography equipment.
Performs all associated activities related to producing acceptable radiographs
Handles and processes film through the darkroom
Performs activities necessary to supply and maintain automatic film processors
Perform liquid penetrant (PT) testing by:Preparing surfaces as required by grinding to remove paints, scale, weld spatter, and other surface irregularities
Using solvent to remove grease, oil, tape, tape residue, dirt, etc.
Applying penetrant using proper applicators
Removing excess penetrant using shop towels or paper towels
Applying developer using proper applicators
Evaluating test results using proper lighting
Removing penetrant materials and cleans surfaces upon completion of testing, using solvents, towels/cloths.
Perform magnetic particle (MT) inspection by:Preparing surfaces as required by grinding to remove paint, scale, weld spatter, and other surface irregularities
Using solvents to remove grease, oil, tape, tape residue, paint, dirt, etc.
Performing required AC/DC dry or wet test technique using proper equipment and accessories
Evaluating test results using proper lighting
Demagnetizing parts if required
Cleaning surfaces upon completion of testing to remove particles using compressed air, shop tows or solvents
Grinding and verifying the removal of prod marks
Perform incidental grinding & polishing as required
Use the required tools, equipment, accessories, and procedures to perform the specified inspection test method
Evaluate test results and make accept/reject decisions in accordance with procedure criteria and provide written documentation as required
Move materials, parts and components as directed
Set up and work from scaffolding; move major scaffolding after initial set-up; and move and re-set preheat equipment as required to maintain preheat controls
Be responsible for exact process and related documentation auditable by the customer.
Provide individual signature and detailed inspection data on applicable documents providing verification of work performed.
Maintain records as directed
Keeps work area clean, neat and orderly
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
In order to thrive in this role, successful applicants must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency (will be verified) coupled with five years of experience performing nondestructive testing and evaluation. Additionally, successful applicants must:
Must be able to work ANY SHIFT
Must be a US citizen; must not hold a dual citizenship
Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check prior to hire date.
Once hired, the candidate must pass testing and become qualified to BWXT's NDE requirements concerning liquid penetrant, magnetic particles, and visual inspection.
Candidate must communicate effectively with co-workers and have the willingness to take direction from shop foremen and supervisors
-American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety Program (IRRSP) dual (x-ray & gamma) certification is highly preferred.
-Prior NDE experience is highly preferred.
-Prior experience in a close-tolerance manufacturing/fabrication environment is highly preferred.
Note: This pays $36.416 per hour and is complemented by a generous benefits package.
