Terms of Employment

• W2 Contract-to-Hire, 6 Months
• This position is remote. Candidates must reside in Maryland, Washington, DC, Virginia, or West Virginia. There is monthly to quarterly onsite meetings in Reston, VA.

Overview & Responsibilities

• Our client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a blend of mainframe and Java development experience to join a team in the Enrollment Services space. This team manages all real-time services (APIs) that provide consumers with access to retrieve and update enrollment-related data in the source of record. The team also manages jobs that share enrollment data with customers and vendors.
• The role will require working across technologies, including Java batch jobs and legacy mainframe applications, with the goal of reducing the organization’s mainframe footprint and contributing to modernization efforts. The Senior Software Engineer will be part of an Agile/Scrum team, responsible for navigating the mainframe environment, developing and supporting applications, and participating in modernization efforts.

Required Skills & Experience

• Application development expertise using COBOL programming language and environments such as CICS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, ChangeMan, and Topaz
• Java development experience, including developing unit/integration test cases using Junit/TestNg
• Proficiency with Java and Spring technologies, including Spring Core, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Integration
• Experience working with code developed by other developers and the ability to work independently
• Experience with web services, including a strong understanding of RESTful and SOA Services
• Experience with Agile or Scrum methodologies
• Strong experience in continuous integration within a DevOps environment
• Experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written (in English)

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience working with API Management Tools
• Experience with version control tools such as GIT/BitBucket
• Extensive experience with Agile or Scrum methodologies.
• Strong experience in continuous integration within the DevOps environment.
• Experience with working on experience Java, Spring related technologies such as Spring Core, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Integration
• Experience with cloud technologies in AWS.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to understand and work with code developed by other developers.
• Ability to work independently.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience working with API Management Tools.
• Experience working with GIT/BitBucket.
