We are currently seeking an Energy Advice Officer to join the Sustainable Communities team in Halifax for Newground. In this position, you will have a vital role in implementing our energy efficiency programs and assisting local communities. You will be responsible for managing incoming referrals and conducting assessments for households that are experiencing or are at risk of fuel poverty. The objective is to reduce energy expenses and provide access to necessary support.

Please be aware that this is a temporary role lasting until March 2026, with the possibility of extension dependent on additional funding.

Requirements

Key responsibilities of the Energy Advice Officer include:

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of energy efficiency programs..
  • Manage incoming referrals and complete assessments for households experiencing or at risk of fuel poverty to help reduce energy costs and access the support needed. Support will be provided over the phone, from community venues and in person within resident’s homes.
  • To give advice on how to reduce energy use in the home and to fit low tech energy saving measures in people’s homes including LED lightbulbs and radiator reflector panels.
  • Deliver a programme of energy advice to customers, including home visits to vulnerable customers, drop in’s in the community and energy advice events to tenant and community groups.
  • To create and maintain excellent referral links with partner organisations across the region and to raise awareness of the project through a means of different marketing techniques.
  • To refer clients on to other organisations offering support in areas such as wider debt management, health and wellbeing, employment and education.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A full driving license
  • Experience of dealing directly with members of the public in a customer facing role, working with clients who suffer from multiple barriers preventing them from engaging.
  • Experience of delivering advice on energy efficiency and sustainability related issues.
  • Understand the pressures and demands placed on people that are living in poverty.
  • Knowledge of how to recognise fuel poverty, along with ability to provide advice and support to customers in order to address fuel poverty.
  • Knowledge of partner agencies offering support on wider debt management, health and well-being, employment and education
  • The ability to work alone and meet the funders targets.
  • The ability to manage their own workload.

    • Salary: £26,862 per annum
    • 27 days annual leave (rising to 32 over 5 years’ service) + bank holidays
