Your New Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Earthworks Examiner to join our CEFA account in Scotland - Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh and Ayrshire. Any other locations across mainland Scotland are also welcomed.
Amey has worked continuously with Network Rail delivering aspects of the CEFA contracts since 2009, taking responsibility for the asset management and examination of different assets during this time.
Amey undertakes Structural Examinations, Structural Assessments, Operational Property Inspections, Earthworks Examinations, Technical Monitoring and provide Rapid Response services for Network Rail in several routes throughout the United Kingdom. Civil Examination Framework Agreement (CEFA) team includes approximately 200 Structures Examiners working on behalf of Network Rail to assess over 70,000 structures across the UK.
(After a period of on the job and external training) You will be required to undertake cyclical earthwork examinations (soil / rock / tunnel portal) on the railway infrastructure across Scotland. A walkover of the slope will be initiated to produce a report, to assess the potential for slope failure and identify any defects.
The standard hours of work are 37.5 hrs with some weekend and nights.
You will be responsible for:
Make preparations for undertaking earthworks examinations in line with Network Rail standards.
Carry out earthworks examinations in line with Network Rail standards.
Prepare, compile, sign and submit a report for each earthworks examination to the Earthworks Examining Engineer or Earthworks Manager, using handheld technology.
Immediately notify the Earthworks Examining Engineer and/or the Earthworks Manager of defects which give rise to a concern about safety.
Submitting to the Earthworks Manager via the Earthworks Examining Engineer - Urgent Defect Report where defects which give rise to a concern about safety have been found and/or where urgent action has been taken or is required to maintain safety.
Support the planning of the examination workbank to manage risk and compliance in accordance with Network Rail Standards.
Undertake on-call duties usually on a 1 in 4 frequency, in support of earthworks assets.
Where qualified, carry out site examinations using roped access techniques.
Perform special examinations as directed including assistance with monitoring schemes for sensitive structures.
Undertake reconnaissance visits.
Provide assistance with specialist examinations undertaken by the Examining Engineers team, including unique structures and tunnel examinations.
Assist in provision of safety critical site support duties as required (COSS and ES).
Co-operate with quality, safety and environmental objectives and contribute, where appropriate, to continual improvement initiatives.
Undertake technical monitoring examinations, coastal defence examinations and Line of Route structures examinations.

Basic knowledge and understanding in Earthworks/Geology
HND or equivalent in relevant technical discipline – Level 5 or equivalent
IT Literate with minimum word processing and drawing application
Full driving licence
