Position Summary

The Inventory Planning Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the organization's inventory management processes. This role involves leading and developing the inventory planning team, continuous improvement inventory strategies, reporting/visibility, managing stock levels, and ensuring inventory meeting service standards. The manager balances inventory levels with customer service levels, reduce excess stock, and minimize stockouts. Evaluate and develop effective tools and processes to manage, monitor/report and improve inventory health using data, processes, systems, and metrics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop an inventory planning team (8-10), analyzing inventory data, collaborating with key business partners to achieve superior service to customers, and implementing best practices ensuring meeting company objectives.
  • Develop and administer policies, initiatives, and procedures to continuously improve inventory health, capabilities, reporting, analysis, and capital.
  • Identify, communicate, and mitigate risks related to inventory shortages, overages, and supply chain disruptions.
  • Ensure that a high degree of communication and coordination occurs between Sourcing, Supply Chain, Operations, R&D, Engineering, Sales, and Marketing to align inventory plans with business goals.
  • Monitor, analyze, and develop process/plans to improve inventory performance, days of supply, obsolescence/excess inventory.
  • Coordinate with Production Scheduling, Operations, and Logistics to ensure on-time delivery of products to customer.
  • Responsible for planning precise programs for all locations - balancing inventory levels, manufacturing capabilities, and customer requirements.
  • Partners with Marketing and Sales to provide visibility to sales pipelines to evaluate material and capacity, manage aged inventory controls and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with production scheduling to manage network optimization including capacity management.
  • Lead the Core vs. Specialty programs along with review and determine the correct precise programs to support business. This includes monitoring the productivity adjusting to ensure meeting service levels and inventory targets.
  • Manage and improve Raw material planning - systems, processes, and people (Buyers).
  • Review raw material supply plans to be executed by buyer/planners.
  • Manage raw material inventory stocking strategies (Buffers) partnering with strategic sourcing managers and supply chain.
  • Act as the interface between the planning function and strategic sourcing to ensure materials are provided in the most cost effective and timely manner.
  • Monitor raw materials to ensure adequate, reliable availability to meet production schedules and provide analysis of gaps.
  • Provide necessary adjustments to plans to assure customer needs are met along with strategic deliverables required to meet company performance and financial targets.
  • Partner with team in the development and execution of specific short- and long-term plans including financial impacts. This includes being a catalyst of change and continuous improvement.
  • Works to optimize all planned inventory levels and management of inventory on hand to assure volumes, material width, length, packaging, etc. are optimal to facility production capability, storage, and customer delivery.
  • Lead and provide direction to ensure ERP implementations as directed. This person will be a super user to help train on this system, continuously review for process improvements.
  • Apply industry best practices in inventory management and continuously seek process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain reports on inventory metrics, providing data driven recommendations to achieve objectives to senior management.
  • Oversee the use and maintenance of inventory management systems and software including ensuring Links meets and improves overall process and inventory health.

Selection Criteria:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in management, Supply Chain, or technical-related discipline (math, etc.) or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience:
    • 5 or more years' experience in Managing a Inventory Planning or Purchasing or team.
    • Functional knowledge of material requirements planning, and inventory planning.
    • Must have very strong communication skills, both oral and written, to successfully interact with Customer Service, Manufacturing, Inventory Planners, R&D, QA, and Sales/Marketing.
    • Strong administrative, organizational, and prioritization skills to handle large volumes of email, paper, and data.
    • Very strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel mandatory.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Access, Word, PowerPoint, One-Note and Visio acceptable.
    • Strong Math and typing skills.
    • Experience with ERP system preferred.
  • Other:

    • Physical Requirements: This person works within an office environment with some time spent at manufacturing facilities. The noise level in the facility is usually moderate and hearing protection may be required in posted areas. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as foot protection & eye protection is mandatory for all activities in a Plant.
    • Travel: Up to 20%
