Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and qualified Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate will work with students of varying ages and abilities, providing individualized O&M training and support. This role is essential in helping students navigate their environments safely and confidently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students O&M needs and develop individualized instruction plans.
- Provide direct O&M instruction to students in various settings (school, home, community).
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive support.
- Conduct training sessions for staff and parents on best practices for supporting students with visual impairments.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and adapt instructional strategies as needed.
- Stay current with best practices and innovations in the field of orientation and mobility.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Orientation and Mobility or a related field.
- Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) preferred.
- Experience working with students with visual impairments is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel to various locations as needed.
