The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent NEC Supervisor to join our Consulting Highways team. With shared office space in our Staffordshire, we welcome applications from NEC Supervisors across this region.
As part of Amey Consulting, the Staffordshire Design Hub (SDH) are a diverse team that provides design and other support services to Staffordshire County Council (SCC) and developers across the whole of the County through our successful and well-established Infrastructure+ Partnership contract with the Council.
The role
Our NEC Supervisors play an important part within the Highways improvement projects team and alongside our client, Staffordshire Council. As an NEC Supervisor you will provide effective support and assistance on a variety of highways improvement schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior team members. Responsibilities include:
- To carry out the NEC Supervisor role and responsibilities in accordance with the NEC form of contract.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with CDM 2015 principles.
- Have knowledge of the construction of highway improvement projects and in particular the Specification for Highway Works.
- To carry out site visits to solve any construction issues with the contractor and ensure that the work is being constructed safely, to the required standards and in accordance with the work programme and/or be resident on site full time in the Supervisor’ role.
- To carry out site inspections and issue approvals in accordance with contract instructions.
- Provide any technical support as necessary to the NEC Project Manager.
- Ensure that records of all work carried out and ‘as built’ details can be provided.
- Attend the tool box talks and safety briefings, ensuring PPE is adhered to correctly and carry out safety and environmental inspections in accordance with the contract requirements.
- Provide support to the head office design team when required.
- Mentor employee and apprentices as required.
What you will bring to us:
- You have experience working in a highway construction environment, preferably as a NEC Supervisor.
- A recognised qualification in Highway or Civil Engineering is preferred but not essential.
- A full driving license as a vehicle will be provided for business use only
- CDM 2015 awareness
- Experience of the NEC Form of Contract (Options A, C and E)
- Experience of highways construction work and the ‘White Book’ Specification for Highway Works
- Competent user of Microsoft Office
- Understand client business, requirements, service needs and aspirations
- Good liaison and interpersonal skills
- Team management skills
- Customer relationship skills
- Commercial awareness
- Basic programming and planning of sequence of works awareness.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Availability to work at Nights and Weekends if requested.
- Self-motivated and proactive in delivering solutions
- Previous experience of Highways contracts
- Experience of performance monitoring and continuous improvement
- Experience of Chapter 8 and Traffic Management
- Awareness of Tool Box Talks and the ability to deliver effectively to a diverse team
- Personal Highways Safety
- Site Management Safety Training
