The role
Currie & Brown is looking for an experienced director of building surveying to join our building surveying and specialist services leadership team in Scotland. The successful candidate will be central in leading our busy team of building surveyors, CDM advisors, quality control and PFI advisors covering all aspects of professional and project-related services across the private and public sector.
The successful candidate will support team leaders in generating a high standard of service delivery, achieving successful outcomes for our clients, capturing and sharing knowledge across projects, enhancing our culture of innovation and reinforcing our reputation as a preferred service provider. Working in this role will involve assisting in the management of client and project teams to deliver building surveying and specialist services profitably and on time to a wide range of clients. The role will cover the full spectrum of building surveying and specialist services, including design and specification, clerk of works, contract administration, building surveys, dilapidations, principal designer and specialist PFI advice.

As a director of building surveying and specialist services your core duties will involve:
- Leading, managing and mentoring an expanding team
- Developing and expanding the existing client base across key sectors
- Managing and supporting the team engaged on existing commissions
- Developing and improving the performance of the team; formulating and implementing a local growth plan in consultation with senior director/s
- Managing the recruitment, supervision and development of staff within the allotted teams and liaising with line managers
- Proactively marketing Currie & Brown locally and nationally in existing and potential markets; developing new business and clients in line with strategic objectives
- Participating in bid winning, including drafting proposals and attending key industry events
- Implementing and monitoring relevant administration systems as well as standards for customer care
- Managing the administration of the teams, ensuring that facilities and working practices follow company guidelines
- Undertaking responsibility for compliance with the company’s health and safety policy and other relevant policies
What skills and attributes are we looking for from you:
- BSc in building surveying or equivalent
- Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) preferred
- A minimum of 15 years’ technical delivery experience gained within a construction consultancy
- IT skills (AutoCAD, NBS, MS Project Outlook, Word, Excel & other bespoke)
- Significant experience and evidence of performing in a similar role
- Knowledge of local and national marketplace
- Good technical writing, client-facing and communication skills
- Well-organised, diligent, proactive, assertive, and willing to work in a mutually supportive environment
- An ability to win work and deliver business growth
- A team player with a ‘can do’ attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful and flexible
