Job Title: Head of Sustainability

Location: Kent

Salary: £75,000 - £90,000

They are committed to incorporating sustainable practices across all our operations, and we are looking for a passionate and experienced Head of Sustainability to lead these efforts.


Role Overview:

As our Head of Sustainability, you will play a key leadership role in driving our sustainability agenda, ensuring that all projects meet environmental standards and align with our broader sustainability goals. You will collaborate closely with senior management, clients, and project teams to integrate sustainable practices into every aspect of our business, from design and planning through to delivery. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the sustainability strategy of a growing family-run contractor as we take on higher-value, more complex projects across various sectors.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the company’s sustainability strategy, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and emerging regulations.
  • Advise on sustainable construction practices, materials, and technologies, ensuring that all projects are designed and delivered with minimal environmental impact.
  • Work closely with the pre-construction and project teams to integrate sustainability goals into project planning, tendering, and delivery.
  • Lead on achieving and maintaining sustainability accreditations such as BREEAM, LEED, or other relevant certifications for high-value projects.
  • Monitor and report on sustainability performance, ensuring key metrics are tracked and communicated to stakeholders.
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders to promote sustainable solutions, tailoring our approach to meet project-specific environmental goals.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal teams, ensuring sustainability is embedded into the company culture at all levels.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, legislation, and advancements in sustainable construction, and ensure the company remains at the forefront of these developments.
  • Contribute to marketing and business development activities by highlighting the company’s commitment to sustainability, helping to secure higher-value projects.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in a sustainability-focused role within the construction industry, ideally at a managerial or senior level.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable construction practices, regulations, and certifications such as BREEAM, LEED, or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and inspire both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working on complex, high-value construction projects, with a track record of delivering sustainability targets.
  • A passion for environmental stewardship and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, from design through to project delivery.
  • A relevant qualification in sustainability, environmental science, or a related field is highly desirable.
