Job Description

We're looking for an exceptional Transitions Support Coordinator to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Transitions Support Coordinator, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, based in Exeter.

Your world of expertise

Our Transitions Solutions Team (TST) are an integral part of the Transition and Data Quality team within the Services Directorate. TST are responsible for the transitioning new environmental observing instrumentation and networks into operational support with minimal disruption to existing services. This transitions process includes installation design, release management, training, stores management and quality assurance (calibration).

Whilst reporting directly to the Stores manager, you'll work with all the areas above to provide vital support and ensuring governance is followed and services maintain the appropriate standards to retain Service Acceptance status.

You will also work with the Release manager in the design and implementation of new processes associated with our Transforming Service Management project, which may include guiding Observation network managers through the service mapping process.

Your key duties

  • Working as part of a team actively promote the Met Office's Service Acceptance Policies and best practices across Observations. Ensure tasks and projects that implement changes to our observing networks comply with Release Management and Service Acceptance processes and policies.
  • Support the Observations network managers with the implementation of the service mapping process (as it develops) as required.
  • Review and assist with the maintenance of the Release Management controlled documentation to ensure efficient use of processes and their conformance.
  • Using meteorological awareness, technical skills and knowledge check and approve documentation prior to Service Acceptance and formal release.
  • Provide operational support to Stores including cover for internal stock order processing and asset management of equipment, regular asset audits and process reviews.
  • Support the Head of Transition and Data Quality including maintaining the T&DQ Risk Register and providing a secretariat function for T&DQ monthly progress meetings.
  • Produce monthly report (using Power BI) showing T&DQ Network Service Lifecycle activity.

As our Transitions Support Coordinator, your total reward package will be up to £37,776, annually, which includes:

  • £26,954 base pay
  • An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%
  • Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:


Better together: Proven ability to work effectively without detailed supervision, on multiple tasks and across multiple teams, whilst knowing when to seek assistance.Evidence of effective planning with the ability to prioritise work to meet tight deadlines.Effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to analyse information from multiple sources and provide reports in multiple formats and suitable for varying audiences.Expert by nature: Evidence of an understanding of the need for the governance processes and the ability to identify and implement process improvement.We keep evolving: Good working knowledge of SharePoint and an understanding of the importance of document management and version control, awareness of or the willingness to lean Power BI and other O365 appsExpert by nature: Awareness of ITIL service management principles and willingness to learn with a view to obtain appropriate qualification (such as ITIL Foundation) if required.
