What will you be doing?

The EHS Specialist will act as a true ambassador for all things environment, health and safety at KDF UK. You will provide advice and proactively implement initiatives across site, in line with legislation and Group-led programmes such as Net Zero and Planet Passionate, encouraging commitment through actions and targets.


Key objectives in your role as EHS Specialist include:

  • Carrying out risk assessments and COSHH assessments on new products and processes, considering how risks can be reduced.
  • Reviewing existing risk assessments and COSHH assessments within the agreed review dates and update against current legislation or improved practices.
  • ‘Owning’ the site safety policies and procedures and advising on improvements and necessary legal updates.
  • Fully investigating all accidents and incidents, reporting RIDDOR injuries to the HSE, and advising on improvements to reduce similar incidents.
  • Assisting in all accident investigations and reviewing risk assessments as necessary.
  • Understanding annual Net Zero targets and putting appropriate action plans in place.
  • Ensuring the effective communication of Kingspan’s global sustainability programme, Planet Passionate.
  • Ensuring that we develop and are fully compliant with OHSAS18001, ISO14001 and ISO 50001 requirements.
  • Being fully involved with all HSE aspects related to Customer and Supplier audits.
  • Advising on all other aspects of H&S including (but not limited to) fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational health.
  • Daily monitoring of boiler emissions and meter readings, ensuring results are recorded on internal log.
  • Managing the relationship with external bodies in relation to environmental issues.
  • Managing the permit to work system, ensuring safety of contractors working on site in accordance with method statements and risk assessments.
  • Leading Health and Safety discussion meetings throughout the business on a regular basis, ensuring issues are escalated to the Head of Operations in a timely manner.
  • Liaising with suppliers and customers when necessary, to ensure all products and services are delivered in-line with the appropriate safety systems.
  • Working closely with Manufacturing and Engineering teams, to understand and support their requirements in relation to HSE matters.
  • Working within the Manufacturing team to support and positively influence all manufacturing KPI’s.
  • Taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions, being aware of emergency procedures including the evacuation and fire precaution procedures.
  • Working with other Group HSE professionals in driving safety and environmental improvements and initiatives (may include travelling to other Group Sites).
  • Working with regulatory bodies in ensuring ongoing legal compliance (e.g. HSE, Environmental Agency, Local Council).
  • Arranging external expertise, where required, to maintain legal compliance.
  • Assessing ongoing training requirements and arrange training where required.
  • Providing In-House training and toolbox talks as required.
  • Arranging Health Surveillance as required.
  • Any other reasonable duties, as and when required.


Compliance:

  • Adhere to the Company’s compliance obligations, policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Report compliance concerns, issues, and failures.
  • Participate in training as required.


What do you need?

You should:

  • Be minimum NEBOSH General Certificate qualified. NEBOSH Environmental is desired but not essential.
  • Have previous experience of working in a manufacturing environment, roles with an engineering bias are advantageous.
  • Be able to communicate and influence effectively at all levels and drive all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental matters forward.
  • Have a persistent manner and be able to succeed in a challenging environment.
  • Hold knowledge of key Health & Safety and Environmental legislation and its application in practical terms.
  • Have experience in conducting a variety of risk assessments (generic and specific), site inspections, report writing and contractor management.
  • Possess a professional approach generating credibility and confidence in others and at the same time develop and driving a culture of safety mindedness whilst having the ability to work on your own initiative and adapt in a changing environment.
