The Role`

Scalian UK are looking for an experienced sustainability professional, who will work full-time with the our client in their Team based at Filton, Bristol. The team are part of client's corporate Sustainability & Environment (S&E) function, working across the different divisions and manufacturing plants. The team acts as internal “critical friends”, guiding, checking and enabling UK functions and divisions to develop and deliver their own S&E operational responsibilities and initiatives.


What You Will Be Doing

  • Supporting site-based teams in day-to-day management of S&E responsibilities and the development of the client's UK Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Identifying opportunities and risks to S&E performance and guiding and supporting UK site-based teams to develop initiatives to address those identified
  • Providing support and guidance on S&E issues relevant to client's procedures and ISO 14001:2015 certification across the sites and divisions as required
  • Guiding operational S&E compliance and Risk & Opportunity management at site and UK national level as required
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a UK wide S&E strategy, aligning to client's global vision
  • Supporting national communication and coordination of S&E matters for the various internal and external stakeholders
  • Developing UK-wide engagement programmes that bring S&E into the lifecycle of all client's product development
  • Maintaining and developing national cross-functional and cross-divisional networks;
  • Maintaining and developing harmonised systems and S&E risk controls in the UK, in partnership with the company's corporate strategy


About You

  • Relevant degree in sustainability, environmental management or relevant associated discipline
  • Proven experience in a corporate role, (ideally with manufacturing or industrial sectors) focused on sustainability/environment
  • In-depth knowledge of sustainability principles, regulations and industry best practices and their application
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and project management skills
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying S&E opportunities and implementing pragmatic and compliant initiatives to deliver them
  • Experience with risk and opportunity/materiality systems and processes
  • Experience in S&E audit and ISO management systems
  • Able to work autonomously and as part of a team, with a diplomatic and engaging way of working.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders including cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to influence staff and management at all organisational levels
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and when presenting to internal or external audiences
  • Fluent in English (excellent writing and speaking level). Proficiency in French, Spanish or German would be useful
  • Knowledge and understanding of the company's corporate Sustainability strategy and commitments
  • Familiar with using Google Suite software
