Job Description

So, what about the day to day?
  • Youll initially complete the foundation level of the Contract Management Capability Programme.
  • You will drive areas of responsibility forward by leading on key areas of work within your area; communicating and presenting with confidence both within the team and to more senior colleagues.
  • Youll provide effective leadership to develop staff/teams by managing team dynamics, considering individual needs and creating a genuine team spirit.
  • Youll drive improvements from conception through to successful conclusion by building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, managing conflicting stakeholder views constructively to ensure continuous improvement, communicating confidently both verbally and in writing.
  • You will develop and maintain an awareness of wider issues and a consideration of other priorities, sourcing evidence via different streams (e.g. previous performance data, feedback from suppliers, analysis, management information etc.) to effectively contract manage and inform decision making to drive key pieces of work forward.
  • Youll draft formal documentation by following legal, commercial and policy requirements; liaising with relevant stakeholders to gather information and providing response to high level Senior Civil Service information requests, preparing board papers, responding to ministerial work, etc.
  • Youll work closely with cross cutting and controlled correspondence teams within Division, providing support as a Subject Matter Expert for your area of work.
  • You will support the delivery of CMPD and DWP aims, objectives and vision, supporting and/or deputising for your G7 Manager if/when required.
  • Youll be responsible for improving your own learning, keeping in mind the need to consistently improve your understanding of the role and methods to be used.
  • You will undertake specific ad hoc duties as and when required, in line with operational needs and Directorate/Division requirements.
  • You will obtain or maintain specific qualifications required to perform your role.
  • Youll deliver Line Management responsibilities as required.
  • You'll be willing to frequently travel to other DWP/Supplier locations, with occasional overnight stays as required.

Hybrid working: These job roles may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

Candidates should demonstrate the following criteria in their personal statement, this is the information which will be used to conduct the written sift:
  • Lead Criteria: Proven experience of leading on key areas of work to achieve objectives within the following functions: Governance, Risk Management, Audit, Assurance, Performance or Quality Management.
  • Demonstrable experience of analysing and interpreting a range of data from various sources to support decision making.
  • Able to demonstrate the delivery of quality outcomes at pace, on competing priorities whilst overcoming setbacks.
  • Showcase experience of providing effective leadership demonstrating strong ability to develop staff or teams.
  • Evidence ability to confidently communicate and present to a range of stakeholders both internally and externally, via various methods, constructively managing conflict to drive work forward.
  • In depth knowledge of drafting formal documentation following legal, commercial and/or policy requirements.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window) , and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths, Ability and Experience.

After submission of the first stage of your application, you will be invited to complete a Numerical Reasoning Test. If you successfully pass the test, you will be invited to complete the final written stage of the application.

If you fail to complete the on-line test and written application before the deadline, your application will be withdrawn. At the final written stage of the application, applicants will be asked to provide a Personal Statement of no more than 750 words against the key criteria as outlined above. You will also be asked to provide a short CV listing your skills and experience.
