Role: HVDC System Design Specialist

Sector: Offshore Wind

Location: Remote with occasional office attendance required

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 6-Months + Likely Extension

Rates: up to £600 Daily Rate Inside IR35 via Umbrella

Full UK Working Rights

Clearance: BPSS


The System Design Specialist will be ultimately responsible for the technical feasibility and detailed technical assessment/design of the HVDC and AC cable systems:


  • A strong track record in cable systems studies with experience in land and submarine HVDC transmission systems. Ideally worked on one or more of HVDC interconnectors, and/or OFTOs within a consultancy environment
  • Experience of using cable design packages
  • A good knowledge of the latest technology in HVDC and AC cable systems, specifically offshore submarine HVDC cables.
  • Strong industry relationships across OEM, Ofgem, TSOs and contractors.
  • To be a self-starter, innovative and proactive



To be considered for this role you will need:


  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline, and preferably Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.
  • 5+ years demonstrable experience on an expert level in the design, specification, witnessing testing and installation of HVDC cables, more specifically submarine HVDC cables experience is essential.
  • The ability and experience to technically assess issues, problems and/or faults related to HVDC cables alongside an in depth understanding of the technical requirements for design, installation, operation and maintenance of HVDC cables.
  • Demonstrable experience is required in cable calculations, design, rating, offshore sizing etc
