Senior Herdsperson – Shropshire

We are seeking a Senior Herdsperson to join our dairy team in Shropshire!

Our Farm

We are a family run high input/high output modern dairy unit with the aim of producing quality efficient milk at the highest of standards on a Muller Sainsburys contract. Our herd of over 1100 Holsteins is milked three times a day through a 60-point rotary parlour. Our current preg rate stands at 30% with average yields of over 12,500 litres. We use Afi Milk and DairyComp 305 software to assist in the day to day running of the herd. We have a purpose-built transition facility to maximise cow welfare and output, which also gives our calves the best start in life with heifers being reared on the farm and in conjunction with a heifer rearer.

Your role

As a Senior Herdsperson, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the dairy operation. This is a hands-on position with roles and responsibilities including;

• Accountable for the running of the dairy operation - managing the dairy team, milking and yard work
• Daily management of the herd's health and wellbeing
• Leading the team effectively to achieve daily tasks and targets
• Responsible for achieving the farm’s production targets, including milk production.
• Liaising with vets, nutritionists, and farm consultants
• Taking responsibility for dry cow management, calving cows and colostrum protocols.
• Utilising the data provided and keeping compliance & records up to date.
• Farm machinery and general farm maintenance.
• Keeping the overall farm tidy and safe to operate, adhering to all Health and Safety protocols
• Looking after the farm whilst the Farm owner is away
• General stock person work and parlour maintenance.

You will work closely with the Farm owner to agree on different objectives and strategies. Having regular meetings to provide you with needed support and guidance.

Qualifications & Licenses required

• A full UK Driving license.
• Proof of UK right to work
• AI & Foot trimming qualification preferred
• Telehandler & Forklift License preferred

Our farm is based in the village of Adderley, north of Market Drayton. With schools, leisure, walks, pubs and shops nearby.
