Job Description

The SSO post provides leadership and guidance in the Garrison, and will oversee the success of 2 major projects, Military/Civic engagement which includes 5 Royal Gun Salutes (RGS), York being the only saluting station in the NE, Kohima Day, Remembrance Day and Armed Forces Day, this partnership between the military and York City Council is of great importance to the City of York.

You will be responsible for Garrison security which is the management of vetting and security policy, procedures, processes and documents to ensure civilian staff and contractors are cleared, and car passes are issued, all in compliance with policy. The SSO manages the central funds within York Garrison, Garrison Budgets and Welfare Fund.

You will work alongside the Garrison Quartermaster (QM) on Estate matters for the Garrison, focusing on staff outputs and delivery. This includes mediation over accommodation issues for both York and QEBTC. Hold regular booking conferences and supervise allocation of accommodation and training resources and management of contracts with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).

A key role of the SSO is liaison with Local Authorities on matters affecting the Local Authorities and interaction with the local community. The SSO holds the responsibility of line management of staff within HQ York Garrison.
