Job Description
Our Client are a well-established, family-run wholesale food business in Scotland, supplying high-quality products to a wide range of customers, including restaurants, retailers, and caterers.
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will be a key player in managing the financial operations of the business. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality financial reporting, ensuring robust financial controls, and providing strategic financial insights. This is a hands-on role that will require close collaboration with various departments to drive profitability and operational efficiency, supporting the company’s ambitious growth plans.
The Role:
* Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
* Provide detailed financial analysis, highlighting trends, opportunities, and risks to inform key business decisions.
* Support the Finance Director in presenting financial results to senior management and stakeholders.
* Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to develop realistic financial targets.
* Develop and manage rolling forecasts to ensure the business is well-prepared for both short-term and long-term financial planning.
* Assist the Finance Director in scenario analysis and financial modelling to support strategic initiatives.
* Monitor and manage business costs, identifying opportunities for cost efficiencies, particularly in procurement, inventory management, and supply chain.
* Perform margin analysis to evaluate product and customer profitability.
* Work with the Finance Director and operational teams to implement strategies that drive profitability and improve operational performance.
* Ensure effective cash flow management to support business operations and future investments.
* Oversee credit control and manage working capital, focusing on receivables, payables, and stock to optimize financial health.
* Lead and develop a high-performing finance team, ensuring they have the tools and support to excel.
* Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the finance department, driving efficiency and innovation.
Key Skills and Experience:
* Fully qualified accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
* Proven experience as a Finance Controller or in a senior finance role, ideally within wholesale, food, or FMCG sectors.
* Strong financial management experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
* Advanced analytical skills with a proven ability to provide clear, actionable insights.
* Expertise in financial systems (e.g., Sage, SAP, or similar) and strong Excel capabilities.
* Leadership experience, with a track record of managing and developing a finance team.
* Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the business.
