Job Description

The Role:

We are seeking a skilled Network Support Officer (2nd Line) to join our Information Systems and Network Services team. The successful candidate will provide vital IT support for staff and students at both Oldham College and University Campus Oldham, ensuring the effective operation of our computer systems and networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day support for the Colleges IT infrastructure, ensuring hardware, software, and network components are operational.
  • Assist staff and students with troubleshooting issues, maintaining communication on progress via the IT Helpdesk.
  • Manage network accounts and assist with the maintenance of network hardware such as switches, servers, and multimedia devices.
  • Assist the 1st Line Support team with IT equipment setup, fault resolution, and supplier coordination.
  • Ensure IT assets are recorded accurately and undertake regular hardware/software audits.
  • Support the installation and maintenance of legitimate software across the Colleges systems.
  • Monitor network health and ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Occasionally work outside regular hours, including evenings and weekends, for major network maintenance and upgrades.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • HNC/HND (or equivalent Level 4/5) in IT Hardware and Networking
  • Industry-recognized IT qualifications (e.g., Microsoft, Cisco)
  • Experience with Microsoft server products, network troubleshooting (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN), and firewall maintenance
  • Knowledge of virtualisation technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (Google Classroom, Office 365, Teams)
  • Experience in supporting IT within an educational environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work demands and technologies.
