New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. Demand Management are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

This programme is a result of the need to continue effective billing services, given existing meters are reaching the end of their asset life. Additionally the Water Resource Management Plan and other long term regulatory frameworks, require that Yorkshire Water reduce demand for water year on year. This programme will deliver the capabilities to understand and target ~8MLD of leakage reduction, ~4 MLD of Non household demand and 2L/p/d of household consumption, known as Per Capita Consumption in AMP8.

This role will therefore be critical in coordinating the delivery of updated Processes, Contract Partner integration and Service Delivery, New and/or upgraded Technology systems and people change, to achieve the required outcomes of the programme, to time, cost and quality.

Where you fit in:

As our Manager of Smart Metering Delivery & Benefit Realisation you will be accountable for the overall success of the £300 Million smart metering programme across the following strands of work:

  • To work with SME's from across the business to develop process's and business requirements, to achieve and assure the benefits and outcomes from the Smart metering programme. Then alongside Tec colleagues develop a Tec change programme to deliver the required changes across multiple corporate systems.
  • The supply chain consists of a Data as a Service Radionetwork provider, a meter install/exchange partner and two meter hardware providers. All 4 partners need to work seamlessly with YW to ensure our customers experience great service and the programme stays on track, delivering in excess of 1000 meter exchanges per day. This role will ensure YW manages the contract effectively, allowing YW to apply contractual clauses and incentives, whilst mitigating risks and realising opportunities.
  • Delivery of Metering programme to OFWAT PCD: OFWAT the financial regulator have introduced Price Control Deliverables for AMP8, which protects customers investment by ensuring the funding provided to Yorkshire Water is spent on delivering 1.3 Million meter exchanges. Further a PCD covers the 125,000 metering optants who request a meter install to a property not previously metered. This role will create a plan across customer, supply chain and regulatory reporting to ensure YW deliver and compliantly report the outputs from the programme.
  • In the creation of new process's and updating of systems, people change is required, to effectively manage, maintain and realise the benefits of smart metering. This role will coordinate with all impacted areas of the business to ensure appropriate training, user acceptance testing and colleague management occurs.
  • The smart metering programme has many stakeholders, including internal business units, local authorities, retailers and customers. This role will ensure all stakeholders have a bespoke plan, effectively communicated, to ensure excellent service and that blockers are removed from achieving the benefits of the programme. This role will encourage continuous improvement is implemented and inform future strategy and policy.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Full UK Driving License
  • Multiple years relevant experience at a management level in Change, Smart Metering or Demand Reduction, in a regulated utility environment
  • Ability to work with autonomy and make operational risk based decisions, considering cost and consequence of options
  • Ability to influence, challenge and manage expectations of external stakeholders
  • Knowledge and understanding of asset management principles and processes with previous experience in an operational and / or strategic leadership role in a commercially orientated and / or regulated environment
  • Knowledge and experience of Clean water assets and distribution networks
  • Financial awareness of the AMP plans and regulatory mechanisms
  • Experience creating and leading a team to deliver complex change programmes
  • Experience in carrying out detailed investigations into performance shortfalls on Metering, Clean Water Production or Network Assets
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining key internal and external relationships
  • Experienced in supporting and embedding change, able to influence and drive the right culture and behaviours
  • Experience of managing relationships with consultants and contract partners
  • Clearly demonstrates the Yorkshire Water company values and behaviours.
  • Experienced in leading highly successful teams.
