Are you passionate about inspiring change in vulnerable young people?

Brook Street Social Care is looking for a resilient and empathetic Qualified Teacher. If you have a deep understanding of child and adolescent development, experience with complex behaviour, and the ability to connect with hard-to-engage young people, this could be the perfect role for you.

About Us

We care for 24 young people aged 10 to 18 who have been placed with us following court proceedings, for their own safety, or due to behavioural risks. Our mission is to help these young people develop emotionally, socially, and academically, so they can contribute positively to their families and communities.

We are committed to Child Friendly Leeds—a city where all children are safe, healthy, and empowered to reach their potential.

The Role

As a teacher, you will:

  • Lead teaching and learning within your subject area, ensuring high standards are met.
  • Develop and deliver well-structured lessons that meet the needs of all students.
  • Inspire students to achieve, regardless of the challenges they may face.
  • Adapt your teaching to support each student’s strengths and needs.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback to encourage growth.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to support wider aspects of the centre’s educational goals.

Experience teaching STEM subjects is an advantage but not essential.

About You

We are seeking candidates who are enthusiastic, adaptable, and capable of fostering positive change in young people. You must have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • A track record of delivering high-quality lessons that support individual student needs.
  • Strong assessment and feedback skills to promote student progress.
  • An understanding of restorative and trauma-informed practice.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, relevant legislation, and educational standards.
  • Experience teaching in a SEND, SEMH, or residential care setting, particularly with students displaying challenging behaviour.
  • The ability to manage classroom behaviour effectively to create a safe learning environment.

What We Offer

This role is both rewarding and supportive. You’ll benefit from:

  • Competitive salary plus community and secure unit allowances.
  • Full funding for further qualifications relevant to your role.
  • Ongoing training and development to enhance your skills.
  • Clear career progression opportunities.
  • A range of staff benefits designed to support your wellbeing.
  • Membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
