Job Description
* Lead and manage all laboratory operations, ensuring optimal efficiency, productivity, and performance across all areas of testing.
* Ensure that laboratory areas are organised, free from clutter, and all surfaces are clean, ensuring a safe and professional working environment.
* Promote and maintain safety and professionalism, ensuring all team members adhere to the same standards.
* Provide leadership and mentorship to department managers and laboratory staff, fostering a culture of accountability, development, and high performance.
* Oversee the investigation of nonconformances and contribute to continuous improvement processes.
* Act as the primary point of contact between laboratory operations and senior management, ensuring alignment of operational goals with business objectives.
* Assist in internal and external audits, ensuring full cooperation and timely investigation of audit findings.
* Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of lab management.

Qualifications & experience
* Degree/HNC in a scientific discipline or equivalent experience.
* 3+ years of relevant work experience in analytical chemistry (experience in environmental chemistry is highly desirable).
* Technical knowledge of environmental testing and various instrumental techniques.
* Previous management experience, with strong people management and leadership skills.
* Familiarity with ISO 17025:2017, MCERTS requirements, and LIMS systems - preferable
* LEAN methodology experience - preferable
* Exceptional people management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate teams in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong organisational skills and resilience under pressure.
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
* High attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
* Competency in PC software (intermediate level), with strong numerical and verbal reasoning skills.

The successful candidate for this Head of Laboratory Operations position will be offered a competitive salary plus 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (additional day on work anniversary and 6+ years), pension and 4x life assurance.
