Job Description

Full-Time Teacher Required

Can you engage and support vulnerable and often challenging young people to succeed in their education? On the back of growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and caring teacher committed to enabling looked-after learners, aged 11-17, to reach their full potential through the delivery of an innovative and varied curriculum.

About The Role

The vulnerable children we educate come from difficult circumstances and often have complex needs. We pride ourselves on being nurturing and supportive and using innovative strategies to engage young people to help them overcome their disadvantages. We value diversity, resilience and ambition and expect our staff to share our passion for improving the lives of young people; providing them with the best possible education while they're with us and the greatest opportunities to thrive when they leave the safety of our school.

Able to deliver across the wider curriculum and, when required, stand in for others where literacy and numeracy are concerned, you'll enjoy working one-on-one and making a genuine difference to young people's lives.

Key Aspects Of The Role

As one of our teachers, you will:

  • Assist the Headteacher in ensuring that the School maintains its outstanding standards.
  • Develop an understanding of the specific needs, challenges and ultimate goals of each young person, supporting them to re-engage with education and build confidence in their learning, helping to raise standards of achievement for all pupils.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans under the instruction and guidance of senior education staff, and supervise the delivery of teaching by teaching assistants.
  • Clarify learning expectations, develop appropriate and engaging resources, and promote positive learning behaviours through encouragement and reward.
  • Contribute to the personalised nature of the education provision by regularly communicating with other members of the education team and care staff about each pupil's progress and needs.
  • Work across multiple sites and support teaching in the local and wider community as part of the varied education offer at Arnfield Independent School.
  • Promote the inclusion, acceptance and welfare of pupils, safeguarding them at all times.

Arnfield Independent School

Established in 1997 and based in the High Peak, we are an Independent School based in Glossop (Ofsted rated Good with elements of Outstanding - Spring 24) that supports the education of looked-after children, aged 11-17, as part of a well-established Care Group. Our curriculum is innovative and varied because the children we educate have complex individual needs. The school uses a variety of teaching strategies including one-to-one classroom teaching, ASDAN and outdoor education so that we can support students to re-engage with education, build confidence in learning and achieve meaningful learning outcomes, enabling them to take greater control of their lives as they transition into further education, training or work.

Our children and young people come from throughout the United Kingdom and, occasionally, abroad. They live in one of our three outstanding residential care homes where our support workers and a team of psychologists help them deal with their wide range of complex issues resulting from social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in their formative years. Whether they are with us for short-term respite care, intensive crisis intervention work or longer-term placements as they transition towards semi-independence, we want to help them learn, grow and achieve so that they have every opportunity to succeed in later life.

What's In It For You?

Aside from knowing that you're making a real difference to a young person's life, every time you come into work, as an outstanding independent provider of high-quality education we train and mentor you, as you mentor the young people in your care. We'll help you develop your technical skills and confidence and help you build a genuinely rewarding career; the likes of which other employers can't match. And we try hard to make sure you maintain a healthy work/life balance. Of course, you'll also receive

  • Competitive pay - salary packages of around £30k to 32k depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Comprehensive induction training and ongoing CPD.
  • 35 days' paid holiday.
  • Referral and loyalty bonuses from £50 to £500.
  • Teacher's pension.
  • Comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme (providing personal and professional help).
  • Employee perks and discounts.

Essential Skills

You Will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Have a specialism, or demonstrable experience, in supporting the wider KS2/3 curriculum.
  • Be comfortable stepping in to support colleagues with literacy and numeracy lessons.
  • Have experience of engaging reluctant learners and dealing with challenging behaviour.
  • Have a proven ability or demonstrable interest in relating to vulnerable young people.
  • Understand the broad national curriculum and other relevant learning programmes
  • Be able to use a variety of equipment e.g. practical science kit, art materials etc.
  • Be eligible to work in the UK and have a full, valid manual driving licence.

Important

All the young people we look after are equally entitled to have their needs met in a safe, fair, respectful, and balanced way. All staff are responsible for safeguarding and promoting equal opportunities and for challenging any behaviour or practice that discriminates against any young person or colleague based on race, religion, disability, age, gender, sexual orientation, or any other perceived difference.

Job offers and continued employment are conditional upon stringent pre-employment checks, thorough referencing, and the maintenance of a satisfactory enhanced DBS clearance.
