Job Summary

Job title - Pit Operative
Location - St Austell, Cornwall - Littlejohns and Wheal Martyn pits.
Hours of work - 12 h shift / Days and Nights
Salary - £28,988.52 after 5 weeks it increases to £30,450.49 with earning potential of £31,609.60


Day Shift:
Week 1: 7am - 7pm - Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat & Sun (Wed & Thurs off)
Week 2: 7am - 7pm Wed & Thu (Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat & Sun off)
Night Shift:
Week 3: 7pm - 7am - Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat & Sun (Wed & Thur off)
Week 4: 7pm - 7am Wed & Thu (Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat & Sun off)

As a Pit Operative you will be based at Littlejohns, reporting to the Shift Captain, supporting the sites under Quarries Regulations 1999 legislation safely meeting the required tonnage, quality, environmental and production costs and targets.

You will:

Be given a complete site induction, associated training and support, working as part of a team with an opportunity to progress with the right skills and attitude.

Your responsibilities will include the following;

  • Operate in a safe manner at all times.

  • Assist shift team in completing their duties as required.

  • Operate the washing monitor.

  • Operate the Pit Control room (Tardis).

  • Provide support for blasting as a sentry if required.

  • Ensure regulatory inspections are carried out as appointed.

  • Be willing and competent (with training) to operate the Tank Site.

What do we ask in return?

As a Pit Operative your main role is to work the monitors that wash the Kaolin (Clay) into a liquid slurry for further processing, you will be operating the control equipment (SCADA - Electrical system to operate various items of machinery), and ideally be familiar with computers and how they work to help facilitate the use of the SCADA system.


A key part of the role is to work the Tank Site, you will be liaising with other sites to ensure safe and prompt delivery of our product to the respective internal customers, managing the quality and density as required.


The following skills / experience would be required:

  • Legally able to drive in the UK

  • Excellent EHS knowledge and awareness.

  • Eagerness and ability to learn and take on more responsibility.
