The Role


We are looking for a Distribution Centre Specialist to join our Central Logistics Team working on a hybrid basis, ideally living within a commutable distance of Swindon, Wiltshire. The Distribution Centre Specialist will provide expert advice concerning the warehouse processes carried out within SEWS-E, its subsidiaries and its third-party logistics providers.


Job Duties & Responsibilities


  • Support the design of warehouse processes to meet the needs of new and existing customers to ensure they maximise the efficiency and competitiveness of the deployed resources. Report results back to the Central Distribution Manager
  • Support the SEWS-E Business Teams RFQ activities by generating warehouse cost simulations for new business and support the implementation of awarded contracts
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to agree best practice to remove non-value-added activities whilst maintaining the highest standards of health and safety
  • Design and carry out regular audits to identify process improvements to save cost, reduce the risk of error, reduce safety risks and promote good morale
  • Support the Central IT Department to suggest improvements to the Company’s WMS software and operational capability
  • Provide immediate support to investigate serious concerns involving the safety of employees, customer complaints and operational failures under the direction of the Central Distribution Manager
  • Support the Company Health and Safety Manager to investigate any safety incidents that occur at any of the Distribution Centres
  • Support the Company Environment Manager to reduce the carbon footprint of our warehouses across the company
  • Support the investigation and implementation of LCR corrective actions and report results back to the Central Distribution Manager
  • Support cost negotiations between the Central Logistics Manager and 3rd Party providers with cost comparison information
  • Liaise with the Business Teams and manufacturing sites to improve packaging design, fill density and overall cost and report results back to the Central Distribution Manager
  • Carry out studies to justify the implementation of returnable b disposable packaging and report results back to the Central Distribution Manager
  • Provide data to monitor the environmental impact of the different types of packaging within the business, including the weekly reporting of company-wide packaging movements
  • Perform other reasonable tasks and responsibilities as requested by the line manager


Skills & Qualifications


  • Good analytical and data processing skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Excellent communication / negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Computer literate in MS tools such as Excel, Word, Outlook etc
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working in a similar role
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team in a pressurised environment


Special Conditions


  • Must have an existing right to work in the UK
  • Driving Licence
  • Permitted and willing to travel internationally on a regular basis
