Job Description

Borthwick castle is an incomparable 15th Century Scottish keep - the only one of its ilk in private hands across all of Europe. It is now the most stunning of venues, complete with 12 bed chambers and room for 85 guests, available for exclusive private hire.
Exclusive hire includes three magnificent public rooms: The Garrison, The State Room and The Great Hall which can be used for ceremonies, receptions, dining, dancing and activities.
For events, the maximum number of guests in the public rooms is 80.
The Castle has 10 elegant bed chambers sleeping up to 20 guests and, next to the castle, Crookston Cottage which can sleep a further 4 guests and the newly refurbished Gatehouse can sleep 2 guests.
Most events consist of weddings of varying numbers of days, however we also get a limited number of private stays throughout the year.
The Role
  • A rarely available position in our management team has become available to join. This role is extremely beneficial in hospitality terms, giving an excellent balance of work/life and offering unsurpassed flexibility. We average 1 event per week over a year which would require longer hours (generally on a Friday/Saturday). All other shifts are flexible, and are usually day shift.
  • You will be directly in charge of a current team of 3 salaried staff and further 12 casual weekend staff.
  • Operational preparation and management of events for entirety of clients stays including check-in, food and beverage, nights coverage and check-out. On event days you will primarily work in conjunction with 2 other departments: Kitchen and Events.
  • During event days this role is hands on, leading from the front and being one of the faces of our experience. Our current reviews show how important this is to us.
  • Assist events department with relevant client queries leading up to event dates and how this develops into client stay experience
  • Manage casual staff recruitment strategy to support annual business in a sustainable manner.
  • Be ultimately responsible for our standards of service during our client stays.
  • Manage communications effectively with Kitchen and Events with regards to client stay preparation and client stay execution to deliver smooth information transfer and seamless operation.
  • Ensure staff training and qualifications meet Borthwick standards. Implement brand standards and capability training for new staff. Hold periodic training sessions for current staff.
  • Review operational Health and safety folder to be comprehensive and well presented. This will include all legal compliances applicable. Work with Director to ensure that full compliances are met along a range of safety standards.
  • Stock control and ordering for wines, beers, spirits, soft drinks, tea, coffee and any event specific requirements. Work in conjunction with kitchen to ensure entire event specific requirements are met.
  • Maintain Borthwicks goal as employment beacon at all times, identify areas we can help this.
