Principal Subsea and Pipeline EngineerAbout the job:Joining our Engineering & Consulting business, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting and exciting projects. As part of our highly experienced Subsea and Pipeline Engineering team, you will provide value-adding, specialist engineering support to our clients. Key Responsibilities:You will lead and contribute to projects across our Engineering and Consultancy Services markets (Oil and Gas, Offshore Wind, and Low Carbon), with key responsibilities including:
  • Being technically responsible for all pipeline and riser engineering work and allocating, supervising and directing preparation of project deliverables. Subject to project size, will delegate some level of supervision and specific checking activities to appropriate competent personnel.
  • Leading and contributing to concept development and feasibility studies for challenging marginal, HPHT, and deep-water subsea developments in the Oil & Gas sector, and design and analysis of CO2 and H2 onshore and offshore pipelines in the Low Carbon sector.
  • Leading a team to deliver pipeline FEED studies; supervising, reviewing and checking the pipeline activities including: Philosophies, Specifications, Routing Studies, Mechanical Design, Material Selection, Corrosion Protection, Stress Analysis, Layouts, Drawings, Datasheets and Technical Requisitions & Bid Evaluations. Identifies and resolves discrepancies and divergences from original proposal / contract by raising technical queries with projects / client.
  • Capable of formulating resolutions and supervision of technically challenging and/or high-profile issues, with support from technical colleagues or Project Engineering Manager, and effectively communicating with Clients and Senior Management.
  • Serves as the liaison for inter-discipline engineering for projects and is responsible for specific discipline related activities. Responsible for the successful completion of specific scope on schedule and within resource hour and budget estimates.
  • Identifies a clear scope of work and supervises preparation of the Master Document Register (MDR) when required. Responsible for planning/scheduling the pipeline engineering activities and person resources. Quantifies the total number of engineering deliverables, resource-hour allocation and format of delivery, and other requirements for execution of the work. Provides necessary regular project controls / reporting input to Project Management.
  • Actively participating in business development, building and maintaining client relationships and contributing to successful proposals and tenders, including reviewing ITB (Invitation to Bid) documents submitted in the proposals stage, preparing resource hour estimates and writing technical proposals.
  • Complying with the Quality Assurance processes and procedures defined in the Kent Management System (KMS) for successful project delivery.
Other responsibilities may include:
  • Leading or contributing to pipeline and riser integrity management, life extension, decommissioning studies, failure investigations, consultancy studies etc.
  • Leading or contributing to subsea cable routing, mechanical design, analysis and assessment in the Offshore Wind and Oil & Gas sectors.
  • Leading or contributing to analytical or non-linear FE methods to solve diverse and complex subsea pipeline and subsea cable problems.
  • Leading or contributing to the developing of onshore pipeline routing criteria and routing maps, allowing for environmental, safety, land rights and legal considerations.
  • Participation in innovation projects to continually streamline and improve upon our toolkits for delivering our assessments.
  • Co-ordinating internal and client audit requests and facilitates audit procedures of engineering systems within the department.
  • Supporting the on-the-job training and development of our junior engineers.
  • Participating in recruitment activities such as reviewing CVs and conducting interviews.
  • Raising Kent’s technical profile through strong client relationships and Thought Leadership activities.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
  • Engineering degree (honours or equivalent) in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Naval Architecture or similar engineering discipline.
  • Chartered status.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent coordination, monitoring and supervisory skills.
  • Good interpersonal and team-working skills.
  • Strong offshore / subsea pipelines experience. Onshore pipelines experience is considered advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of subsea and pipeline engineering, and of UK and International regulatory frameworks, codes, and standards. Good understanding of global buckling, limit s...
