Job Description
Job Title: Principal Designer
Location: Nationwide
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 (Dependant on experience) + car allowance
Requirements:
• Have the appropriate technical and other academic qualifications to demonstrate the necessary skills and knowledge for the role.
• Have membership of relevant professional institutions, be or able to obtain Certified Fellowship of the Association for Project Safety and be or able to obtain TechIOSH with a view to progression to CMIOSH within a reasonable timeframe..
• Be an excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to communicate internally and externally with people at all levels and work as part of a team.
• Be able to encourage cooperation, coordination and communication between designers.
• Be able to build client relationships and ensure a high standard of technical service.
• Excellent IT skills.
• Possess a high degree of organisational skills to manage various tasks, prioritise own and subordinates' workload and manage time effectively to deliver projects within timescales and on budget.
Duties and responsibilities:
* Planning and Coordination: Oversee and manage the design phase, ensuring that health and safety risks are identified and mitigated throughout the project lifecycle.
* Communication with Duty Holders: Liaise with the client, contractors, and other designers to ensure clear communication of health and safety responsibilities.
* Risk Management: Identify and eliminate potential design-related hazards, and reduce risks where possible, providing solutions that prioritize worker safety during construction and future use.
* Documentation: Prepare and maintain the health and safety file, ensuring all relevant information is recorded, updated, and communicated to stakeholders.
* Compliance with CDM Regulations: Ensure that the project complies with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015) by coordinating the health and safety aspects of the design work.
* Support during Construction: Offer ongoing advice and guidance during the construction phase to ensure safety considerations are adhered to and updated when necessary.
