The Estates Engineering team is responsible for providing a safe, comfortable and compliant estate for students and staff. We set the standard for engineering using specifications, policies, and procedures. We are involved in shaping and future proofing the University estate a key stakeholder in all capital and revenue projects.
About the Role:
The Engineering team is responsible for overseeing and managing all mechanical and electrical assets across the campus, ensuring they are safe, properly maintained, and serviced in accordance with current standards and regulations.
The Energy team leads efforts to monitor and control energy consumption across the campus and is pivotal in implementing the carbon management plan. They also handle annual Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) and manage energy-saving projects.
Reporting to the Principal BMS Engineer, the BMS Engineering Technician will take charge of the installation, servicing, and maintenance of the campus-wide Building Management Systems (BMS) and the associated mechanical and electrical equipment.
The ideal candidate will work collaboratively within the BMS team and the broader Building Services team, offering specialized support to optimize energy savings while ensuring that faculties and departments can continue to deliver high-quality, customer-focused services.
In this role, the candidate will also contribute to energy efficiency projects by integrating innovative energy-saving technologies in pursuit of a zero-carbon campus.
Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate will have a background in either electrical or mechanical disciplines, with some experience in Building Management Systems and a desire to further develop their expertise. A strong understanding of HVAC systems and controls, coupled with excellent computer and problem-solving skills, is essential.
The role also requires strong oral and written communication skills to effectively explain technical issues in a user-friendly manner. An interest in emerging technologies and energy-saving innovations is highly desirable.
