Location: Cambridge (Hybrid working: 3 days a week in the office or at a customer site)

My client is a key partner in a consortium of UK companies collaborating on the design, development, deployment, and support of new electronic systems for the UK MoD, providing critical capabilities for UK Armed service personnel.
Role Overview: As the Senior Safety & Environmental Manager, you will ensure that new systems are developed and deployed with appropriate safety and environmental engineering rigour. You will work as part of a CORE management team and act as an extension to the UK MoD safety and environmental team, providing advice and assurance. Travel within the UK will be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain project Safety and Environmental Management Systems for defence contracts.
- Serve as the principal point of contact for customer stakeholders, internal project stakeholders, and integrated ecosystem members on all S&E matters.
- Establish, maintain, and enact the Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) for assigned projects.
- Monitor and report progress against safety and environmental targets and objectives.
- Advise on the feasibility of technical solutions to deliver against safety hazards and environmental impacts.
- Perform S&E auditing internally and with ecosystem members.
- Liaise with appointed Independent Safety and Environmental Assessors (ISEAs) to support audits and provide project documentation.
- Ensure Safety and Environmental Plans, Assessments, and reports are delivered according to SEMS and project schedules.
- Maintain current knowledge of Defence Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management System (ASEMS) and associated Defence Standards, Regulations, and Legislation.
- Support Safety and Environmental Engineers in delivering Safety and Environmental Case Reports (SECRs).
- Plan and support Safety and Environmental Working Groups and manage Project Safety and Environmental Panel (PSEP) Meetings.
- Conduct S&E Audits and support independent S&E auditors.
- Investigate safety incidents and recommend continuous improvements.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in stakeholder management across a consortium of companies.
- Experience using e-Cassandra for defence safety hazard logs.
- Experience in environmental impact management.
- Detailed understanding of MOD Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management System (ASEMS).
- Knowledge of applicable Defence guidance, legislation, and regulations.
- Experience applying IEC 61508 and Safety Integrity Levels (SILs) to systems.
- Knowledge of Radiation Hazard (RADHAZ) management.
- Experience managing S&E for electronic systems, particularly around Programmable Elements (PE).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
- Previous experience delivering defence projects aligned with ASEMS.
- Ability to obtain Security Clearance for UK MoD work.
