About City of Glasgow Swim Team


City of Glasgow Swim Team are one of Scotland and the UK's leading swimming clubs. Based at the famous Tollcross International Swimming Centre and other pools around the city, the club have a growing membership and ambitious plans for further success and progress. Recent successes include multiple winners of the Scottish Swimming Nat League, top performing club at SNAGS for the past 3 years and placing over 30 swimmers on Scottish Nat Squad programmes. The club runs programmes from novice to elite and is led by Head Coach, Andrew Addison, who will provide additional mentoring guidance to the successful candidate.


About the Position


City of Glasgow Swim Team are seeking to discuss coaching opportunities with interested, enthusiastic, hardworking and knowledgeable swim coaches for a Level 2/3 for brackets 13-18 Group coach to further develop and provide leadership for our development and 13-18 group squads.


About you:


The successful candidates will be organised, proactive and capable of working both independently and contributing positively to an effective wider coaching team.


Working primarily at Tollcross International Swimming Centre but also at venues across Glasgow.

You will be responsible for building the squad programme and advancing swimmers through the club pathway, whilst working closely with our Head Coach. You will have be flexible and enjoy travelling as some travel to other venues for competitions will be a requirement of the role as will attendance at an annual overseas camp.


Duties and responsibilities:


  • Plan, execute and evaluate the training programme under the guidance of the Head Coach
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to all swimmers
  • Lead with purpose and by example to all swimmers
  • Oversee and guide swimmers on their meet entries
  • Attend and supervise swimmers at competitions and camps
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, attainment and any other relevant documentation required
  • Complete any other activities deemed necessary to ensure the smooth running and successful improvement of the club
  • Engaging with parents and swimmers regarding all matters relevant to the swimming programme
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with our partners which include the Glasgow School of Sport and Athlete Focused who provide strength and conditioning to our athletes
  • Attend coach meetings to discuss the club’s progress and new ideas for the future and, as required, Club Committee meetings.
  • Attend relevant training and CPD as required
  • Engaging with other service providers e.g. Strength and Conditioning coaches


You will have:


  • Punctuality and Excellent communication skills are vital, along with the ability to easily engage and build trust with swimmers under their charge.
  • Experience of working within the voluntary sports club sector, club officials, parents and supporting coaches.
  • Ability to coach swimmers to improve technical skills and physiological readiness to perform.
  • Able to easily engage with and motivate young athletes and support personnel.
  • An understanding of the performance pathways in swimming.
  • Excellent organisational ability and effective resource planning and monitoring.
  • Proven programme planning skills and ability to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a team and consult and collaborate with a range of stakeholders and partners
  • Experience of working within the voluntary sports club sector, club officials, parents and supporting coaches.
  • Ability to coach swimmers to improve technical skills and physiological readiness to perform.
  • Able to easily engage with and motivate young athletes and support personnel.
  • An understanding of the performance pathways in swimming.


Education and Qualifications:


Essential:


  • UKCC Level 2 Swim Coaching qualification or equivalent
  • Experience of coaching and developing swimmers in a competitive swimming club
  • Effective day-to-day IT skills
  • UKCC Level 3 Swim Coaching qualification or equivalent
  • Current and up to date safeguarding & child protection training qualifications (PVG and CWPS)
  • Member of Home Nations Swimming


Highly Desirable:

  • HND or Degree level qualification in sport related discipline.
  • Experience of coaching and developing swimmers to Scottish or British national age group level (or equivalent)
  • Management experience and advanced administrative skills.
  • A current clean driving licence.
  • Experience of Hy-tek Team Manager, Microsoft Office products and other relevant software.



Working hours and benefits:


Salary: Competitive

Hours: Up to 27hours (applications are welcome from candidates who can only commit to fewer hours as the role could be shared between a number of individuals)

Interview Process:


Interviews are expected to be held during October and may include a practical coaching session as well as standard interview questions.

Appointments can be made with immediate effect but will be subject to successful completion of safeguarding checks.
