Job Description
Job Title: Surgical Technologist
Job Specialty: Operating Room
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Experience: 2+ years of surgical technologist experience; must have experience in Orthopedics and Spine
License: Not specified, but a valid license may be required
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) completed through AHA or ARC; Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred; may be required in rare cases
Must-Have: Orthopedics and Spine experience; Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology or successful completion of a military training program for Surgical Technology or Operating Room Specialist
Job Description:
- Apply surgical technology skills to assist in providing patient care in the surgical suite.
- Maintain a safe work environment and ensure quality patient care during operative procedures.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application.
- Assist in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments before, during, and after surgical procedures.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse circulator in patient preparation, assembly of supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Ensure proper disposition of all specimens and assist with all aspects of room turnover.
- Perform duties according to department policy and procedure.
- Monitor surgical supplies for sterility prior to use and document/submit charges accurately.
- Monitor and document sterilization activities for completion.
- Attend in-services and staff meetings, and participate in Performance Improvement Processes.
- Pursue educational opportunities to increase competency and achieve personal goals.
- Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and standards.
- Work with occasional noise exposure, dust, fumes, and chemicals.
- Communicate effectively and work under strenuous physical effort, including walking, stretching, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, squatting, or kneeling.
- Stand for lengthy periods and frequently use side vision, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
- Lift and support weights up to 35 pounds.
- Use of both hands and all fingers required for operation of equipment/instruments.
- Vision and hearing capabilities for distances up to 20 feet, with depth perception and color distinction.
- Adapt to lengthy or irregular work hours, rotating shifts, hard surfaces, moving equipment, temperature changes, humidity, and exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens.
