Job Description
**Job Title:** Surgical Technologist I
**Job Specialty:** Operating Room - Ambulatory Surgical Surgery
**Job Duration:** 13 weeks
**Shift:** Days, with flexibility to float to similar ambulatory surgical procedures.
**Guaranteed Hours:** 40.00 hours per week
**Experience:** 0-3 years

**Certifications:** Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
**Must-Have:**
- Successful completion of service-specific Surgical Technologist competencies.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational and priority-setting skills.
**Job Description:**
- Perform technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring proper technical practices are employed according to accepted standards.
- Provide maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques for specialty instrumentation.
- Implement aseptic techniques, identifying contamination and/or breaks, and take corrective actions.
- Conduct surgical counts and follow policies and procedures for discrepancies.
- Label drugs and solutions, monitoring quantities used.
- Aid in the identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
- Participate in the setup of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes in an organized manner.
- Assist the surgeon with an understanding of patient anatomy and abnormalities affecting the procedure.
- Help in planning instrument needs and case picking.
- Modify scrubbing procedures based on pertinent information and communicate with the surgical team.
- Respond to surgical emergencies and follow emergency management plans.
- Inventory, receive, and store supplies under leadership direction.
- Identify and report defective instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Assist with restocking operating/procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
- Support the registered nurse during the intraoperative implementation phase.
- Operate complex equipment and troubleshoot as necessary.
- Serve as a mentor for Surgical Technician Trainees and as a preceptor.
