The Senior Commercial and Contracts Officer is a new position within the recently created Tekever Defence Business Unit.


Tekever Defence is responsible for the development and delivery of Tekever’s capability offering to the Defence market. The Tekever Defence Business Unit is split into six main departments – Engineering, Capability, Futures, Operations, Delivery and BD & Commercial.


The BD & Commercial division will be responsible for driving business growth through the identification and assessment of new business opportunities and working in partnership with existing customers and the Capability division to ensure that Tekever Defence’s products and services are addressing customer needs.


We are seeking a highly experienced and detail orientated Senior Commercial and Contracts Officer to join our team at Tekever Defence. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing commercial agreements, contracts and negotiations to ensure compliance, mitigate risks and drive business success. This role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of contract law, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners.

You will be based in Bath with an expectation of at least 3 days a week office working. You will also be expected to travel frequently (minimum 20%) to other locations in the UK, Portugal and Europe.


Primary Responsibilities:


Contract Management and Sourcing

  • Oversee the preparation, negotiation and execution of commercial contracts, ensuring they align with company policies and legal requirements
  • Maintain a comprehensive contract database and ensure timely renewals and modifications of contracts necessary
  • Lead the development and implementation of sourcing strategies for commercial requirements to deliver best value for money

Bid Preparation and Negotiation

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and submit competitive bids that address customer requirements
  • Lead negotiations for complex contracts and commercial agreements, ensuring favourable terms and conditions for the company
  • Develop negotiation strategies based on market analysis and company objectives

Risk Assessment and Compliance

  • Identify potential risks associated with contracts an commercial agreements recommending mitigation strategies to management
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations and internal policies throughout the contract lifecycle

Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor and evaluate contract performance, ensuring compliance with deliverables, timelines and quality standards
  • Address and resolve any disputes or issues that may arise during the contract lifecycle

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and provide guidance on contract-related matters
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding specialist commercial advice and contract inquiries and negotiations

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare and present reports on contract performance, compliance and financial implications to senior management
  • Maintain accurate and organised documentation related to all contracts and commercial agreements
  • Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities for improving contract management processes and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Develop and implement best practices for contract management across the organisation


Essential Competencies:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant subject
  • Professional Commercial Qualification (e.g. MCIPS or equivalent) or be willing to work toward
  • A strong, proven commercial background with significant experience in the defence market;
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial contract law and regulations;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to assess complex situations and make sound decisions
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal


Desirable Competencies:);

  • Experience of working in or with the UK Ministry of Defence;
  • Experience of the defence capability and procurement cycle;
  • Technical knowledge of standard MOD commercial terms and conditions (Defcons);
  • UAS and Airspace Industry Knowledge (Aircraft/Sensors/Systems);
