Senior Electrical Engineer - HV Distribution

About the Company:

Belcan Workforce Solutions is currently looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer (HV Distribution) to work for one of our clients based in Manchester, UK. Aspiring candidates must meet eligibility criteria for UK Security Clearance.

About the Role:

This role will be reporting to the HV Team Leader and will be responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of the team’s output in the production and control of drawings and technical documents. You will also work with the Power Sector Director to assist during the bid process to secure further work.

Responsibilities:

• Production of all designs, calculations, reports & drawings associated with new or modification of HV projects from 400V (LV) to 33kV. (single line diagrams, key line diagrams, Layout drawings, technical specifications and other design deliverables.)
• Manage the production of project deliverables through a robust checking process but must also support the CAD technicians with the development of drawings and support the actual delivery of the outputs.
• The Distribution Network Design involves delivering comprehensive project design requirements. This includes creating layouts for distribution substation buildings and switchrooms, specifying and sizing transformers, and conducting system modeling. Additionally, it encompasses performing electrical network studies such as load flow, fault level, and protection analyses, as well as producing calculations, technical reports, and procurement specifications. Participation in project risk review meetings and Design & HAZID reviews is also essential. Adherence to management procedures for document and drawing control is crucial, along with ensuring design input/output aligns with the designated risk management process.
• Furthermore, the role involves developing team-specific standards to maintain consistency in output and advancing the skills of the team’s CAD technicians. It requires taking ownership of assigned tasks, providing program updates to Lead Engineers throughout the project lifecycle, and highlighting any quality and delivery risks. Competence in creating and laying out quality drawings that are easily understood by contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers is a must.

Qualifications:

• Minimum HNC (with relevant work experience) in Electrical Engineering, with Power / HV background
• Ideally MEng / Msc in Electrical Engineering, with Power / HV background
• Working toward CEng status is seen as beneficial, however not essential
