Location: Leicester
Salary: £83.33 - £100 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Full-Time, Temp and Permanent roles available

GSL Education are in search of a Mental Health Support Workers to fill a post at one of our client schools in Leicester. The main factors that will determine your success in this role are your professionalism, adaptability, and commitment to the education of children.

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs (SEN)? We have an exciting opportunity for Mental Health Support Workers to join an Alternative Schooling Provision schools in Leicester that caters for young adults aged 10-19 with various SEN, including Mental Health, Non-Verbal needs, Attachment Disorder, Autism, ADHD, Aggression, and those from broken homes.

Your Role:

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will work closely with the class teacher, support staff, and multi-agency teams to create tailored learning and care plans that encourage each child or young person to reach their full potential. You will play a key role in supporting students academically, emotionally, and socially, ensuring they feel safe and always supported.

Key Responsibilities of a Mental Health Support Workers:

Support the class teacher in delivering lessons and activities.
Work with multi-agency teams to develop personalised care plans.
Manage and set clear boundaries for students with challenging behaviour.
Support students both academically and emotionally.
Encourage positive social interactions and development.
Help students manage triggers and regulate emotions.
Assist in creating a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
Requirements of a Mental Health Support Workers:

Previous experience in a similar role is desirable.
Ability to manage challenging behaviour and set clear boundaries.
A compassionate and patient approach to supporting young people.
Willingness to work with students with complex and sensory needs.
Graduates in SEN, Psychology, Criminology, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
Support Workers interested in training to become Teaching Assistants or Cover Supervisors are also welcome.
The ideal candidate will have a background in either of the following: Challenging SEN Provisions, Youth/ Community/ Social services, Residential Support, Ex Military/Police/ Prison/ security services or Mental Health. Support Services (including CRISIS or Suicide prevention)
Ideally Team Teach, Mappa, Nappi or Pillars Trained (Desired but not necessary).
Would have a Clear Enhanced DBS registered to the update service (we can provide you with details on how to start a new application)
Will be able to provide a full career history and 2 referees.
Will have a Clear Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce/ Child and Adult Workforce) registered to the Update Service. – If you don’t already have a DBS, we can help you apply for one.
