The role

The Finance Manager - BTR will lead the preparation and delivery of property accounting, service charge accounting and service charge administration. They will sit within the Build to Rent (BTR) team and be responsible for financial reporting, whilst also having frequent touch points with the investment management accounting team and external Managing Agents. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in property and service charge accounting, and be able to work independently whilst communicating effectively with various stakeholders.

There will be an expectation for the candidate to get involved in the detail given the small size of the team. This is best suited to those with a can-do attitude who are not afraid to roll their sleeves up, whilst still being a key member of the BTR commercial team.

What will you do?

  • Preparation of the BTR Monthly Operating Report financials and quarterly service charge reporting.
  • Review and audit the BTR AR ledgers ensuring accuracy of information in Yardi and resident billings.
  • Preparation of the monthly/quarterly accounting models for each property, facilitating monthly finance reviews with the Senior Finance Manager for Funds.
  • Mentor the outsourced property accountant and onsite teams to ensure monthly reports are prepared on time and are accurate.
  • Prepare service charge budgets in conjunction with the Asset Management team, supervising the preparation of the service charge accounts by a third-party and the subsequent audit, whilst ensuring budgets are issued on time to the highest quality.
  • Run billing processes for Service Charges to be billed to all Tenants.
  • Be responsible for underpinning the operational understanding and communication of service charge finance and representing the client in line with the culture, brand, and ethos.
  • Contribute to internal and external reporting to ensure consistency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial and non-financial reporting to achieve regulatory and business outcome.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors and resolve all audit queries effectively and within the timescales required.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of rent and service charge regulation, assessing the impact of changes in regulation.
  • Manage a performance driven culture within the team by driving continuous improvements to service, establishing plans, setting targets, and developing individual skills and experience within the team.

You will bring

  • Qualified accountant with extensive experience working as a property/service charge accountant.
  • Strong knowledge of service charge accounting Landlord & Tenant Act 1985 and all associated legislation. IRPM accreditation.
  • Excellent Excel skills. Background in residential led, Residential block management on mixed use schemes.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of financial management and accounting principles and applies this knowledge to effectively manage the commercial and operational activities of the business.
  • Applies strong intellect and logic to quickly diagnose the core issues and identifies a range of potential solutions and scenarios.
  • Actively monitors timeframes and milestones to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Uses breadth and depth of finance and business operational expertise to provide proactive solutions to both strategic and commercial risk and opportunities.
  • Engages all stakeholders and contributors to ensure management optimises outcomes.
  • Experience of Rent and Service charge accounting in a substantial and complex organisation. Knowledge of Yardi will be a benefit.
