THE OPPORTUNITY Our client is in search of an experienced executive to lead a sizeable team of engineers and scientists to continue to be at the forefront of the industry. The Global Head, Engineering will be a highly skilled product development expert with a proven ability to lead, innovate and drive the technical research and engineering development agenda across all product and service lines – both mechanical hardware and digital architecture. Ideal candidates will have exceptional people leadership capabilities with a focus on delivering products, solutions, and services on time, on budget, at desired product costs and with the highest quality. Leading teams, in Agile environments, to create innovative products, quickly, that improve and build upon the customer experience to grow market share are key qualifications. KEY DELIVERABLES Develops a long-term vision and roadmap for engineering technology and product platforms, driving innovation and speed to market for both new product developments, and enhancements. Integrates macro-level trends to assess emerging and existing technologies, refining and maintaining relevant solutions. Partners with product management, manufacturing, and business leadership to: Drive the innovation agenda in a timely fashion resulting in growth and productivity benefits. Prioritize the project portfolio to deliver the best return on R&D investment. Utilizes make/buy/partner strategies to leverage vendors/suppliers and partners with internal resources to optimize time to market, R&D budget and technology risks. Allocates departmental resources strategically across new product development, core platform expansion, innovation initiatives, sustained engineering, technology debt reduction, and customer support. Develops and manages the Bill of Materials (BOM), ensuring all components are uploaded into the ERP system for seamless customer ordering, product readiness, and minimized non-conformance procedures (NCPs). Ensures high-quality designs by validating compliance with technology standards and aligning designs with market-specific requirements. Builds, fosters, and maintains a culture of collaboration, across the entire organization to deliver timely solutions. Drives sustainable engineering initiatives by utilizing modular designs, optimizing speed to market, and selecting advanced materials and technologies. Develops and implements a product development site strategy, determining optimal locations for specific tasks and processes. Attracts, develops and leads a global team of engineers & scientists. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES Mechanical, or Electrical Engineer, and P. Eng is required. Computer Science designation is an asset. A Master’s in Business Administration is an asset. 10 years of leadership experience working with complex engineered products, technology, product management, manufacturing, and distribution operations and a proven track record of innovation. Specific proven expertise in working with product management and business leaders on design for manufacturability to enable speed to market. Strong team-oriented leadership and exceptional influencing skills with a bias for action in a matrixed environment. Demonstrated track record of delivering impact through rapid transformation that yield high levels of growth and sustained performance. Experience leading and working in Agile manufacturing environments. Exceptional at change management, relationship building and collaboration with many business lines.
