Job Description

Role Title: Information and Privacy Officer (REQ519078)

• Employment type: Full-time, Ongoing
• 35 hour working week, in a hybrid working environment
• Conveniently located in Sydney CBD, close to public transport


About this role

The Information and Privacy Officer is responsible for managing all right to information requests made to the HPCA and Health Professional Councils of New South Wales, including requests from the public for access to information under the Government Information Public Access Act 2009 and orders for production, including subpoenas and summons’. The role is also responsible for undertaking the key responsibilities under the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and Health Records Information and Privacy Act 2002.


Crown Clerk 7/8, salary from $ 106, 025 - $ 117,363 plus super and leave loading.

What you'll be doing

Role will be allocated responsibility for:

• Manage the end-to-end process for all right to information requests, including but not limited to determining decisions under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA) and responding to orders for production.
• Provide expert advice, support, and guidance to staff in relation to the GIPA legislative responsibilities and requirements.
• Fulfill the role of designated Privacy Officer for the organisation and establish a robust privacy management system to embed processes and procedures to ensure compliance.
• Conduct investigations into complaints about potential privacy breach and make findings and recommendations.
• Support privacy internal reviews in accordance with the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 and the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.
• Develop and maintain resources for internal and external stakeholders about right to information requests and privacy.
• Provide education and training to all staff about right to information and privacy.
• Maintain transparent records of all work undertaken, ensuring accuracy and relevance of data, to assist in the reporting and compliance requirements for information and privacy.
• Prepare annual privacy and GIPA reports and statistics to comply with reporting requirements.
• Coordinate reporting obligations regarding public interest disclosures.


About you

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who have the following qualities:
• Tertiary qualifications in law or a related discipline or significant demonstrated experience with privacy and information release within medium / large organisations

The Health Professional Councils Authority (HPCA) is an executive agency of the NSW Ministry of Health. We play an important role in protecting the health and safety of the public by supporting the 15 NSW Health Professional Councils in managing complaints about NSW health practitioners.
