  • Office location 4PSQ Parramatta – though Queanbeyan and Orange (S&I location) may be considered

  • Salary relative to experience and ranges $88,147.00 to 98,036.00 + Super

Our Biodiversity Information Systems Team is currently seeking to appoint a BioNet Data Quality Officer to assist with the upload and quality assurance of wildlife observation data to meet government priorities in harnessing environmental data and data quality management. The role will operate within the BioNet support area providing support for customers seeking to upload data and use Bionet product and services.

About the role

  • Prepare and upload of species sightings and systematic survey data, provided by ecological consultants under Scientific Licence, into the BioNet system to build the State's biodiversity information base.
  • Implement data quality checks to agreed procedures to ensure agreed data quality objectives are met.
  • Provide first tier support, including triaging and responding to customer enquiries received through the BioNet Support Centre’s case management system.
  • Support expert and non-expert users in correctly using the BioNet system to enter, load, curate and extract biodiversity data.
  • Participate in the maintenance and ongoing improvement of biodiversity information products and services in-line with the Division’s quality management system approach.
  • Occasionally coordinate volunteers and contractors to prepare and upload flora and fauna observations to BioNet.

About You

Candidates are expected demonstrate the following capabilities:

Key knowledge and experience

• Understanding of species taxonomy concepts and NSW species names

• Understanding of wildlife survey and data management principles

Essential requirements

• Understanding of natural ecosystems and a general knowledge of fauna and/or flora in NSW.

• Ideally has knowledge of the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act (2016), and Environmental Planning and Assessment Act (1979)

• Knowledge of species taxonomy and familiarity with NSW flora and fauna

• Ideally has an understanding or has worked with the use of GIS related software such as BioNet-Atlas of NSW Wildlife or ArcGIS with the ability to interpret maps
