Requisition ID: REQ521275 Applications are Via eCredential The Pain Management Department at the Children's Hospital at Westmead is seeking a Pain Medicine Specialist to fill a 12 month temporary Staff Specialist position. The FTE is potentially up to 0.5FTE, depending on the seniority of the applicant.
The Staff Specialist in Paediatric Pain Management will:
Provide excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Participate in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff.

Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.

  1. Eligible for Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  2. Fellowship of RACP and Fellowship of FFPMANZCA is required.
  3. Substantial background experience in paediatric pain management in the following areas: acute pain management; complex/chronic pain; burns; oncology; PICU/NICU; pain in acquired brain and spinal cord injury; paediatric palliative care.
  4. Experience with non-pharmacological methods of pain management with children.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  6. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to teaching (with substantial experience in teaching paediatric pain management), continuing education, research and quality improvement.
  8. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
