Join Our ICU Team at John Hunter Hospital

We are seeking highly motivated Intensivists to join the Intensive Care Unit at John Hunter Hospital (JHH), the leading tertiary referral centre for the Hunter, Mid North Coast, and Northern NSW regions.

This role offers an initial one-year fixed-term contract, with the potential for conversion to a permanent position for the right candidate.

This is an exciting time to join JHH, with the expansion of our services and a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) scheduled for completion in 2026. As part of our team, you’ll be contributing to the highest level of critical care, handling complex cases across trauma, neurosurgery, stroke, vascular, and cardiothoracic specialties, and supporting the Hunter Retrieval Service.

Position Requirements:

  • Specialist registration in Intensive Care Medicine with AHPRA.
  • Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine.
  • Participation in the senior on-call roster for intensive care, including rotations to regional units and support for the Hunter Retrieval Service.
  • Involvement in education and training programs, contributing to exams and teaching at the University of Newcastle.
  • Flexibility in non-clinical portfolio interests and a commitment to advancing positive workplace culture.
