Senior Manager - Court Logistics, Classification & Placement –

Youth Justice

  • Ongoing, Full time
  • Location: Sydney
  • Level 8/9 Salary ($139,787 - $161,663 pa), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading & plus 22% All Incident Allowance.

Your role

Manage the overall operations of the Youth Justice Court Logistics, Classification and Security & Intelligence Units. Operations include monitoring centre detainee numbers and populations and approve all detainee movements and placements, the day-to-day management of the delivery of court logistics functions and detainee classifications across the state. Lead and manage the operations of Security and Intelligence to ensure strategic needs are being met including supporting agency operations through the collection, collation, analysis, and dissemination of accurate and relevant intelligence. Improve the serious/critical incident response capability of Youth Justice by coordinating and managing the training and development of staff in response procedures and leading search operations, security audits and reviews, developing centre response plans and conducting regular response exercises across centres.

What you’ll do

  • Continually monitor and scan the threat environment to detect emerging security threats and to undertake comprehensive reporting and record keeping of analysis and intelligence to enable key internal and external stakeholders to be briefed on serious security threats.
  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality customer service to support the achievement of custodial operations and maintain strict confidentiality and integrity over sensitive information including Condor Information System, Cop’s, X-Ray Scanners and Body Worn Camera’s.
  • Provide expert advice to the Director Operations and Metropolitan Custody, on matters of intelligence and security including trends developing in detention centres related to drug use, trafficking, gang affiliation, contraband, detainee profiles/activities.
  • Manage the operations of Court Logistics to ensure that detainees attend court across the state as ordered and that sufficient resources including those of staff, vehicles and custodial facilities are provided for the safety of both staff and detainees.
  • Oversee and ensure adherence to policies and protocols in relation to the Objective Classification System and including for detainees managed by the SYORP and provide training and development to the relevant staff where necessary.
  • Coordinate all detainee placements and approve all transfers of detainees between Youth Justice Centres, both within normal working hours and ‘out of hours.
  • Co-ordinate the Use of Force Committee and act as chair on rotational basis.
  • Coordinate all requests/orders for transfers to and from Corrective Services’ facilities (pursuant to the Children’s (Detention Centres) Act, 1987) and any other transfer to a correctional facility due to changes in legal status.
  • Conduct and/or oversee relevant security reviews, audits and emergency scenarios as required.

What we’re looking for

  • Tertiary qualifications in Behavioural/Social Sciences, Education, Psychology or Management or equivalent experience.
  • Current NSW drivers’ licence and preparedness to drive a vehicle in the course of performing the role.
  • It is a requirement of this position to work and be on-call after hours and on public holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to acquire a National Security Clearance at the BASELINE level within three months of appointment.

  • National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
