Job Description

Are you interested in working at the interface of science and policy to improve outcomes for biodiversity? The Biodiversity Research and Information Branch is looking for a Senior Scientist - Ecological Modelling to join the team at the Arthur Rylah Institute (ARI) in developing biodiversity decision-support tools and applying ecological data to inform on-ground decision making. The role will work with scientists, land managers and policy makers to help inform evidence-based investment and planning decisions for biodiversity.

This position requires strong skills in quantitative ecology, including developing and evaluating models and applying problem-solving skills to a wide range of conservation problems. It requires someone who is flexible, able to interpret and communicate data and information, think intuitively, apply time management and project management skills. The position will build and maintain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders and contribute to an energetic science culture that enhances ARI's profile as a scientifically credible organization in applied ecological research.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • A science degree (preferably PhD) with a major in ecology or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated expertise in applied quantitative ecology, statistical methods and decision science, including the ability to generate fit for purpose information for applied ecological management.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality scientific and technical information including advice, reports, scientific articles and other communication outputs.

This is a fixed term position available for a period of 2 Years. The work location for this position is Heidelberg with hybrid work arrangements available.
