As a prison officer, you are part of a team making Victoria safer for everyone. By modelling positive action, you help prisoners become constructive members of the community again.

Prison officers are essential to the operation to the prison. Your work will be dynamic, and every day will be different. You will:

  • Be a positive influence on prisoners
  • Support prisoner rehabilitation through case management
  • Protect the safety and security of staff and prisoners

About you

If you're a good communicator and enjoy achieving positive outcomes, then you have the qualities needed to become a prison officer.

Whatever work background you're from – retail, hospitality, construction, healthcare or manufacturing (to name a few) - your life experience has already set you up to succeed in this role.

Eligibility

  • You need to be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or hold Australian permanent residency.
  • You must hold an Australian driver's licence (minimum P2).

What's in it for you

  • Earn up to $85,967 with a base salary of $59,825 plus penalty rates and overtime
  • Up to $10,000 relocation assistance for a move to regional Victoria
  • Annual salary increases, 5 weeks annual leave, 3 weeks personal leave and provisions for study leave
  • 41 days comprehensive paid training (full time)
  • Complete a Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Adult Custodial)

New $5,000 sign-on bonus!

New prison officers are now eligible for a bonus of up to $5,000. Six months after commencing, you will receive a payment of $2,500. Then, after one year's full-time employment, you will receive an additional payment of $2,500. Conditions apply, see website for details.

Tree Change package

Considering a tree change and keen on a move to the Grampians region? We're offering an $8,000 sign-on bonus and $10,000 relocation assistance to candidates moving to work at Hopkins Correctional Centre. You must currently live more than 100km from
