The VHBA experience The Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) is responsible for the rollout of the Victorian Government's multi-billion-dollar health capital projects. We're delivering world-class health facilities across Victoria including new public hospitals and emergency care, community health services, ambulance branches, residential aged care and mental health facilities. VHBA also provides technical support across engineering, property, asset management and environmental sustainability disciplines.   During early 2024, we became a Project Office within the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA), joining sister projects including the Metro Tunnel Project, Level Crossing Removal Project, West Gate Tunnel Project and Major Road Projects Victoria led by Director-General, Kevin Devlin.

The opportunity

The Director, Design will report directly to the Executive Director, Design and Engagement. They will lead the Design team to develop and implement these specialist components of the Parkville Precinct Redevelopment (PPR) at a critical executive leadership level.

The Director, Design will lead, support and develop a team of multi-disciplinary project management and project control direct and in-direct reports. The role is required to oversee, advise and collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams (including external consultants), as well as brief and advise the Executive Director, and other senior VHBA and Departmental executives.

We are looking for:

• Extensive experience in Health and Building Projects with proven experience working on Government Projects with the detailed design process
• Experience in leading safety in design risks and issues identification and resolution, in consultation with stakeholders, where significant environmental and safety considerations are present
• Extensive experience articulating and presenting complex technical schemes/options/proposals simply and succinctly to enable management and other semi-technical stakeholders
• Proven expertise to develop and manage formal and informal communications and networks across all project design elements
• Support the PPR Executive team in leading and managing all design aspects, within the approved budget and scope
• Demonstrated financial acumen across a broad range of infrastructure areas with a comprehensive understanding of the Government operating context as it applies to the infrastructure industry

Qualification

Tertiary (Bachelor or higher) qualification in Design, Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline and/or extensive experience within similar project delivery environments.
