Job Description

The Senior Policy Officer supports a high-profile, time-sensitive review that will contribute to the future design and continuous improvement of the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program (the Review). The VEU program is the largest existing emission reduction policy in Victoria, plays a strong role in delivering governmental decarbonisation objectives and is a key lever for the delivery of Victoria's energy transition.

The Senior Policy Officer provides advice on energy efficiency policy and regulation, analyses energy markets and trends, and offers evidence-based information to inform the Review's outcomes. Additionally, the position involves engaging organisations that can provide specialist advice, establishing cross-organisational working groups and related governance arrangements, conducting stakeholder consultations, and preparing clear and accurate Ministerial briefings and policy analysis documents.

The Review will focus on ensuring the program is fit for the future and enables the electrification of Victorian homes and businesses at scale. This position is located within the new Strategic Review (VEU) Branch of Solar Victoria, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications such as engineering, energy, science, economics, law or public policy.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency as it relates to certificate markets, buildings, appliances, equipment or the residential or business sectors is desirable.
  • Experience in Government processes and operations, especially in public sector policy design or program delivery is desirable but not essential.

There are 2 x fixed term positions available until 30 June 2026. The work location for this position is Melbourne CBD or Morwell, with hybrid work arrangements available.
