Job Description

Location Profile

Are you looking to build your capacity as an Educational Support (ES) in unique and exciting ways?

Are you a flexible and enthusiastic thinker who is committed to their professional development?

Are you excited by the prospect of being part of a close-knit community where you can build strong relationships with staff and students?

Then this is the school for you!

Furlong Park School for Deaf Children (FPSDC) is a bilingual specialist setting which educates deaf and hard-of-hearing (HoH) children in a dynamic and engaging environment. The school, which sits on extensive grounds in Sunshine North, has been recently upgraded under a VSBA $10 million building grant.

Our staffing profile consists of 12 teachers, 10 Educational Support staff (including a Speech Pathologist) and a Leadership Team comprising of the Principal, Assistant Principal and Learning Specialist. We have Deaf, HoH and hearing staff members, all of whom are committed to maintaining an inclusive and supportive workplace.

Alongside the Primary School Program, we provide an Early Education Program for 3- and 4-year-old students. Our current enrolment is 66, with our school catering to students from the Northern and Western regions of metropolitan Melbourne and rural fringe.

The school follows the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and the Victorian Curriculum, with students working at the F-10 curriculum and Levels A-D Towards Foundation curriculum.

Teachers and ES participate within Professional Learning Teams (PLTs), with teachers collaborating on teaching & learning inquiry cycles and ES developing their professional knowledge and skillset

Whilst FPSDC is a specialist school, many of our pedagogical approaches align with the mainstream schools within our networks and beyond. Our current whole school focuses include embedding our instructional model, creating a Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum, and refining our assessment practices, along with more specific focuses on the reading and writing workshop models, phonics pedagogy, and metacognitive skills.

We hold high expectations for our students to work towards the same educational achievements as their hearing peers, supported by our own high teaching standards and expertise in differentiation.

Our school motto is Empower Enrich Educate, and our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) values are I am a Learner, I am Safe, I am Responsible and I Care for Others. If you are interested in joining our team, we encourage you to contact us via phone (03) 9312 3244 or email to arrange a phone or zoom call, or an on-site tour, before applications close
