Job Description
My client designs and manufactures high power electrical resistors used in electricity generation, transmission and distribution as well as in the industrial automation, marine, telecoms and rail transit markets.
Job Overview:
* My client is looking for an individual to head up the R&D department that is currently being upgraded to increase the scope of testing capabilities that they can offer to their customers.
* You will be reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the R&D Manager will work on the development of both new and existing technologies, applicable to our products and/or services.
Responsibilities:
* Ensuring the safety of all personnel involved with any test activities.
* The setting up of test objects
* The setting up and maintenance of test equipment (including both Hardware and Software, as well as calibration).
* Logging test results
* Developing our in-house design tools to reflect accumulated test results
* Writing Technical Reports, including summaries of test procedures as well as presenting test results and conclusions.
* General upkeep of the R&D area.
* Generating standard operating procedures
* Maintaining a test schedule, allowing senior management to clearly track progress of projects as well as highlighting test facility availability.
* Working with SHEQ to ensure that any necessary risk assessments, associated with test activities, have been carried out.
* Actively promote a strong SHEQ and continuous improvement culture.
Skills & Qualifications:
* Ability to communicate effectively
* Good team working skills
* Good technical knowledge of both mechanical and electrical applications, allowing for the design, manufacture and assembly of suitable test apparatus.
* Experience of working with MV/HV equipment and/or test apparatus.
* Working knowledge of mechanical engineering practices – materials, FEA, fixings, fabrication etc
* Critically evaluate technical and contractual information
* Analyse and understand technical challenge
* Fluent reading & writing English skills
* Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
