Job Description





We are currently recruiting for a Senior Charge Midwife within our team at NHS Fife. You will have Clinical, professional and managerial responsibility for own area which includes all clinical and staff governance issues. The post holder is responsible for service provision, including the delivery of safe and effective clinical practice, ensuring that all local and national guidelines and targets are adhered to and met.

Our unit is modern and progressive with approximately 3000 births per year. The services include outpatient and community services, a complex care Consultant Unit and an alongside Midwife Led Unit. We have an Induction of Labour unit and Elective Caesarean section team. We have the following additional teams: Birth at Home Team, Vulnerable in Pregnancy, Infant Nutrition, Perinatal Mental Health and Child Protection.

We are developing services in line with Best Start recommendations. We are focussing on increasing our rates of continuity of carer in the first instance.

We will encourage you with your professional development educational via our dedicated Clinical Midwife Educator and Midwifery PEF. We have an extremely successful in-house leadership programme and regularly encourage staff to participate in external networking.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. Please note the salary for this post is pro rata to part time hours.
